German Mauser K98 – Portuguese Contract
This is an excellent, 1937 dated, German K98 Rifle manufactured at the Mauser factory Oberndorf. It has a solid walnut stock, adjustable rear sight, complete with bayonet bar, cleaning rod, adjustable rear sight, steel butt plate and original sling.
The rifle has the Portuguese Crest with complete matching serial numbers, inspectors Waffen marks and Nazi Eagle stampings on the receiver
This rifle has an interesting history in that it was discovered in the attic of a house in Germany in 1972 and found its way to the UK.
The barrel was replaced by Peter Sarony at Armalon in 2018. The new barrel has had little use 500 rounds
This is an excellent example of a genuine K98 – Portuguese Contract rifle. This is a rare rifle only 10,000 were produced. Not all the contract rifles were sent to Portugal some were sent to Spain during the civil war and some retained by the Wehrmacht.
